Philip Lawrence Award winner and Unsung Hero nominee Crown Freedom released his new mixtape AA on 31 March as a free stream or download.

AA has been described as an 'electrifying concoction of hard-hitting, brutally honest but positive music'.

Part of the Vital Signs hip-hop collective, Crown Freedom is confident this is his most significant release to date. After a miraculous recovery from a serious operation on his vocal cords that nearly saw his career cut short, Crown has returned with a passion to see lives changed through his music.

Crown says, ‘This album is free because I want every single vulnerable young person to have access to a transforming message of hope and love. That's something you can't put a price on.’

Through his work at The Message Trust, Crown works intensely with young offenders, looked after children and high risk victims of grooming and child sexual exploitation. He believes his new material is not only therapeutic but also thought-provoking and will help to repair the hurt and damaged people who are often labelled as ‘write-offs.’

Drawing from his own experience and the personal battles of friends, Crown highlights and explores uncomfortable issues and topics others often shy away from.

Track 10 – 'Sun Comes Out' – is based on a true story of a young girl from Manchester, who endured unimaginable experiences through sexual exploitation but has since been able to rebuild her life.

About the album, Crown says: ‘It’s bigger than music, it’s bigger than me.’

Crown is inspired by his relationship with God where he addresses a range of issues around identity, bullying, anger and insecurity. Influenced by the likes of Nas, Stormzy, Stevie Wonder and Arctic Monkeys, Crown describes his sound as ‘Ninja’: a style of lyrical skill and sword slicing precision.

Through his work with The Message Trust, Crown will be performing material from the album in schools and prisons across the UK.

Following his appearance at the Higher Tour at the O2 Apollo Manchester in 2016 and visiting over 55 schools in the UK, Crown will be part of the Higher Tour in Birmingham and Wales in 2017 and 2018.
