Relating to the street life, the struggle, the life of drugs, violence, and incarceration; Young Bro brings redemption through his album ‘Strong and Courageous’, released November 2016. Featuring Choir, Marco, Norma Rivera, and Bryann Trejo, his 13 track masterpiece brings the message to the streets. Young Bro and his “heavenly rap” delivers truth and encouragement. Finding Christ in a prison cell, he now walks in faith to expose the face of the devil through his work.
This album is very relatable, having seen the lovely disguises the enemy holds that pull you into the darkest places in life. I admire his courage, strength, bravery, and fellowship to help pull others out of the same shadows he was once trapped in.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" Joshua 1:9.
Connecting to the oppressed and uniting the broken, Young Bro chases after his King and encourages us to follow. One of my favorite tracks was 'Wake Up' where he starts off stating, "Situations get so bad sometimes the devil starts tellin us even God can't handle this". I have seen this happen to my own friends and my heart cries out because the devil lies so good, but our God is and always will be so much bigger. "Wake up...put your shield up focus on the prince of peace...the devil never sleepin tell me why you still sleepin".
As Christians we have a pure loving desire for our nation to awake to the face of God, to the light. Our shield is the word that defeats the enemy. Whether we are living blind or in the light, the devil is always working. Going forward in the light, eventually you become bright enough where you can no longer be touched. Especially when your light joins others, becoming bigger and more powerful. Young Bro includes how God put brothers in his life (which are these other lights). This was one of my greatest blessings, having a new family. My brothers and sisters in Christ are everything to me.
Another track that caught me was 'Ready for a Change', "Pipes, white lines, and needles...we gotta get over these demons because they belong to the Lord". Knowing the battle of addiction, I connected to these lyrics. I have faced these same demons and because of God's mercy they truly are his. Young Bro helped keep this fire burning inside of me, showing me that we fight the same darkness. Reminding me to be strong and courageous. Reminding me not to let this light go out, keep fighting, and keep getting brighter. I am not alone, you are not alone, we are in this together. So take some time to listen to these tunes and connect! Join in the light:)
